Overview

Manaslu Circuit Trek: A Journey Through Remote Beauty

Starting from the historic center of Gorkha, the Manaslu Circuit Trek takes you on a scenic journey through the Buri Gandaki River valley, offering a rare opportunity to explore the wild and largely untouched region of Nepal. Inhabited mainly by the Gurung ethnic group, this trek allows you to experience the beauty of Manaslu’s spectacular landscapes and culture while enjoying the tranquility of a less-traveled path.

The trek is suitable for moderately fit trekkers, requiring no prior trekking experience. Basic physical conditioning, such as walking, running, or hiking, is recommended before you embark on this adventure. The region is renowned for its biodiversity, high-altitude glacier lakes, and the majestic Himalayan ranges, offering a rewarding mix of natural beauty and cultural diversity.

The highlight of the trek is the crossing of the Larkya Pass (5,200 meters) and the stunning views of Manaslu Peak (8,163 meters). The trek can be completed in two options:

  • Option 1: Trek to Jomsom via the Throng La Pass (5,416 meters), followed by a flight from Jomsom to Pokhara and Kathmandu.
  • Option 2: Descend through forests to Besisahar and drive back to Kathmandu.

The Manaslu region, open to trekkers since 1991, remains a restricted area, ensuring a more exclusive and unspoiled experience. The best times to trek are during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) seasons, but trekkers should be prepared for unpredictable weather, ranging from 20°C during the day to -10°C at night, and snow in the winter months (December to February).
